Features
If you’re looking for a GPS that combines outdoor touchscreen navigation with a digital camera, you’ve found it in the Oregon 550. This handheld GPS will guide you in any activity, on any terrain, no matter if you’re a beginner or expert.Snapshots
The Oregon 550’s digital camera will become your best friend. It boasts a 3.2 megapixel autofocus digital camera with 4x digital automatic zoom. You can geotag each photo with its location, which means you can always navigate back to that spot. Take and view photos in landscape or portrait mode, and store them all with 850 megabytes of internal memory.
See everything
Oregon 550 will show you every detail with its 3-inch diagonal sunlight-readable color touchscreen and simple menu. And, of course, the waterproof Oregon 550 can withstand Mother Nature’s harshest elements.
Know where you’re heading
With a built-in 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass, your Oregon 550 shows your heading even when you’re standing still or not holding it level. If you want to know your altitude, the barometric altimeter tracks pressure changes to show you how high you’re standing. Plus, the high-sensitivity WAAS-enabled GPS receiver and HotFix satellite prediction shows you your location quickly and accurately, no matter where you are.
Customize your maps
Oregon 550 already comes with a worldwide built-in basemap with shaded relief. But you’ll have no problem adding your own maps using a MapSource microSD card preloaded with detailed maps. You can add detailed street maps for turn-by-turn navigation, and select topographic maps will help you capitalize on Oregon’s 3-D map and elevation detail. You can also add BlueChart g2 maps for your day on the water, including depth contours, navaids and harbors.
Geocaching like a champ
Oregon 550 gives you paperless geocaching. You can download information form Geocaching.com for up to 5,000 caches. You’ll see important details like terrain, difficulty, hints and descriptions.
Get physical
Oregon 550 works with Garmin’s heart-rate monitors and speed/cadence sensors. It also tracks your speed, distance elevation and location, making it the perfect addition for running or biking.
Go social
Oregon 550 allows you to share your waypoints, tracks, geocaches and routes wirelessly with other compatible Oregon and Colorado users. All you have to do is press “send” to transfer your information.

Came with high quality worldwide basemap with shaded relief, it also recognized my heart beat rate monitor wirelessly, the built in camera is high quality and GPS inserts the exact location into the photo, this GPS is very good for geocaching and with good mount is perfect as car GPS

good value for the price with lots of features, maps are pretty detailed so far i have not added any from the microSd, easy to use screen and it is bright too
by Galin P, , 1/9/2012
GPS on steroids, works in heavy covered areas acquires satellites pretty quickly and ready to go in minutes - i like it!
by Galin P, , 12/27/2011
Newly overhauled looks and works like brand new and the warranty is the same, best deal for the price imno
by Atanas P, , 12/19/2011
It was less expensive so I gave it a try. The newly overhauled, in fact, is absolutely same as the new one I have bought before, just the packing box is not so colorful.
by Galin P, , 12/19/2011
In my opinion it is the most convenient GPS in its class - using it in my car, on the bike and for geocaching - i like it!
by Galin P, , 11/21/2011
Not only Oregon is one of the best Garmin GPS navigators with three axis compass, but it also remembers the exact location where I take my photos, and the quality of the images is awesome with plenty of memory to store them.
by Galin P, , 11/17/2011
I have chosen Oregon 550 for its all in one combination of convenience, reliability and handful of features - camera, three axis compass, barometric altimeter, quick search of satellites, bright screen. And it is waterproof too. Also easy to connect to the USB and get latest updates from Garmin website.
